    Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lenovo S8-50 8-Inch Tablet (Intel Atom Z3745 1.86 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 16 GB Memory, Android 4.4) (Personal Computers)
For me this is a five star product in every way except one: The battery.

After it’s first charge, I decided to run videos continuously to see just how many hours I could get out it. I knew the battery wasn’t fantastic when I purchased it, but after 1hr 30 minutes it had dropped to 25% which for me makes it all but useless (I only bought a tablet to take on long flights).

It really is a shame, because when plugged in this tablet has everything else I could ever want on a mobile platform.

The only reason it’s getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because with the purchase of a power bank (I went for this one: http://amazondiscounts.biz/portal/1/gp/product/B00M0EWED0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00), I should be able to get around 10 hours of life or possible more from it.

Perhaps my battery is just a dud, but 2 hours of life after a full charge in this day and age just seems like a massive oversight. Everyone I’ve questioned on the subject have all agreed that they would take a heavier tablet with a better battery in almost every situation.

    ::EDIT::

After a month or so of use, I’ve found the battery has improved enough to make it usable on it’s own so I’m changing my 2 star rating to 4. If I put the brightness right down to 10-20% I can now get almost 5 hours of continual use which I feel is adequate given the low price tag.

This Lenovo S8-50 8inch Tablet runs Android Kit Kat, sports an Intel 1.86Ghz Quad Core Processor, 2 Gb of RAM and 16Gb of on board storage with a Micro SD Card slot capable of supporting cards of up to 64Gb. The 8″ screen is full HD with 1920 x1200 pixels and there’s an 8Mp rear camera with f2.2 lens and a forward facing 1.6Mp camera for Skype etc. There are twin speakers with Dolby Sound plus a headphone socket but no HDMI socket. The 4290mAh battery life seems good at around 7 hours with “average” use and the unit weighs in at just under 300g. In the box you get the tablet, a USB to Micro USB charging lead, UK mains USB charger plug and a quick start guide.

At around the £100 mark this is a good value tablet – the 2Gb of RAM is twice that of many at the price and the screen is bright plus it offers vibrant colours although does not feature automatic brightness. The tablet connected to our new Talk Talk router easily and has maintained a strong, stable connection at varying distances. I had no difficulty in setting up the email facility whilst surfing and streaming are fine being both fast and stable. The tablet comes with a Lenovo Security Suite already loaded plus Skype, Evernote, Facebook and other genuinely useful applications with some but less than normal bloat ware.

The sound quality is pretty good for the price point and will satisfy most people especially when using headphones or a Bluetooth speaker. Both cameras deliver good image quality for their specification and the rear one features an LED flash. Many shots taken with the rear camera are comparable to a reasonable quality pocket camera – they’re pretty good for a tablet.

In terms of a case, the best solution I found was to go to the Lenovo UK site and order a genuine one from there which also came with an official Lenovo screen protector, although, I see another reviewer suggests a Czech site for sourcing this item. The Lenovo case is excellent quality and features an integral stand. I also paired our S8-50 with a Pure Voca Bluetooth Speaker which sounds great for the size/price.

I think the Lenovo S8-50 is a bargain tablet which focuses on getting the core features such as the speed, RAM, screen and sound right whilst omitting very little in the way of features that you’d notice in the process. We love this tablet – well done, Lenovo.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What’s this?)
As I use this more over time, I’ll pop back and add any observations, but I thought it was worth putting up initial thoughts, for those looking to purchase.

I personally love my iPad Mini Retina, but I have previously used a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7, and my daughter is a constant user of her original Nexus tablet. I have tried both of these recently, and they obviously don’t compare to the iPad, especially in clarity, and speed of responsiveness.

This Lenovo, however, is a great improvement. The screen is clear, sharp and bright, and responsiveness isn’t far off the iPad. The tablet is thin, which makes it comfortable to hold, and it’s perfectly adequate for watching a film. Sound quality is also good.

It comes ready to go, with a few apps pre-installed – but I was happy to see that they could all be uninstalled if not wanted. I have seen android phones in particular, with pre-installed apps which are there to stay, whether or not you use them, using up memory. It then has full access to the Play store, for all your app needs.

I was also impressed with the quality of the photos, and the camera does have a few extra features. However, it does take a moment between pressing the button, and the photo actually being taken – so capturing our cats for example, was rather difficult. I’m not if that’s the camera itself, or the android software.

If you’re happy using the Android operating system, you really can’t go far wrong for this price. If the camera is important though, it might be worth finding out a little more about the speed.
