This review is from: Asus G751JT 17.3-Inch Notebook (Intel Core i7-4850HQ 2.3 GHz, 24 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, G-Sync, Nvidia GeForce GTX970M, Windows 8.1) (Personal Computers)
I build my own desktop systems so my knowledge of computers and components is very good.

After extensive research I narrowed down my choices to 3, Asus G751 JT, Alienware 17 and the MSI GT70 2QD, all laptops coming with the spec that I was wanting which is a 4700 series i7 processor and a GTX970m GPU. At the time all of the laptops were retailing for around £1200.
I chose the spec based on the unescapable fact that the faster GTX980m is simply not worth the extra £400 premium when you’re gaming at 1080p on each model, I’d rather put that into a new desktop GPU.

I’ve owned higher end laptops before and the problem they all share is that they throttle due to heat problems, in laymen’s terms you have a super powerful laptop that overheats due to poor ventilation which leads to the laptop reducing power across the board to avoid permanent damage. I settled on the Asus over the others for the following reasons:
During benchmark stress tests the Asus didn’t throttle when the other 2 did, they don’t have proper heat dissipation fans.
The Asus comes with a Blu-Ray drive and the others have no optical drive at all.
The colours on the Alienware monitor aren’t accurate.
The PSU on the Alienware means it’s only ever running at about 90% capacity.
The MSI is very plasticy and doesn’t feel or look like a £1000+ laptop.
The Asus has programmable macro keys on the keyboard.
The other 2 have the majority of their connections on the rear which is a very poor design choice.

I’ve owned the Asus J751JT for a few months now and I’m amazed at how well it holds up against my more powerful desktop. I went with the following spec:
    I7 4710HQ
    GTX970m
    16GB RAM
    128GB SSD
    1000 GB HDD

I’ve thrown BF4, Company of Heroes 2, Tomb Raider, The Witcher and Rome 2 Total War, Alien: Isolation and they all play on the maximum graphical detail at 1080p with no problems at all and with a very smooth fluidity. Like any gaming laptop the battery power is poor for gaming but you’ll get a good 2.5-3 hours of internet browsing or word processing.
The only real negative about the laptop is the materials they’ve used on the exterior pick up finger prints too easily.
If you’re in the market for a new laptop you need look no further than the Asus G751JT.

Outstanding !!!.. amazingly fast machine. Have upgraded it to windows 10 and it starts up in 5 seconds and shuts down even faster. I hope this machine last as long as my existing asus laptop which is still going strong after 7 years.
